Schwere Wolken
photo animated audio/video installation, FHD, 9:16 format, 15:20 min, Hubert
Blanz, 2019
Project description
For his audio/video installation Schwere Wolken [Heavy Clouds], Hubert Blanz animated a large number of photographs showing
scaffolding tarpaulins on construction sites. He collected the images used for
this project over a period of seven years in various cities and countries. The
predominantly white fabric surfaces were digitally woven into long lengths of
fabric using computer technology and then set in motion in a dynamic,
continuous film sequence.
In an urban context, the covered façades refer to the dynamic process of renewal and transformation of urban
structures. The title Schwere Wolken [Heavy Clouds] also addresses the immediate state of change in the atmosphere
through the composition of the soundtrack. It is getting dark. The wind picks
up. A storm or rain may follow. Perhaps the sun will shine through the thick
clouds again. A process of renewal is underway, with what is to come always
remaining hidden behind the curtain.
